South Ward Tops Voter Turnout

VOTER participation rates in Fremantle changed little overnight – with only two votes registered in City Ward.
The turn out in East Ward has dropped off with 1138 or just under 30 per cent of voters sending in their postal choice.
The biggest jump was in South Ward where 1719 or 42.51 per cent electors have turned out to vote, with an additional 53 votes registered overnight.
Candidate Marija Vujcic, who has campaigned to remove the South Terrace speed bumps, told StreetWise, “we have given people a reason to vote”.

City Ward so far has attracted 1451 votes or 35.59 per cent of the electorate (4077); North Ward 1304 or 31.82 per cent (4098); Hilton 1259 or 37.71 per cent (3339); Beaconsfield 1373 or 34.88 per cent (3936); and East Ward 1138 or 29.93 per cent (3802).

East Ward candidate Michelle Cunningham said it was heartening to see the votes rolling in.
If your voting package is lost or damaged, you can get a new one at the Council Offices during work hors or at the Town Hall on election day.

In Cockburn, where Roe 8 and the Outer Harbour have dominated social media pages, two-thirds of electors across all three wards have not voted, the highest turnout in West Ward with 6728 or 27.89 per cent of 24,295 electors.

Nine candidates are running in East Ward, five of whom campaigned to build Roe 8. Only Kathy Pritchard opposed Roe 8 and the Outer Harbour proposal.

In Melville Central Ward, 4537 or 36.70 per cent of 12,361 electors have turned out; Palymra-Melville-Willagee 3864 or 30.35 per cent of 12,730 electors; Bateman-Kardinya-Murdoch 3764 or 33.86 per cent of 11,115; Bicton-Attadale-Alfred Cove 4454 or 36.93 per cent of 12,061; Applecross-Mount Pleasant 4378 or 38.15 per cent of 11,457; and Bull Creek-Leeming 4212 or 37.09 per cent of 11,356.

Mayor Russell Aubrey is up against former Labor minister George Gear and former Melville mayor Katy Mair.

People can no longer post their vote but they can drop them in at the Fremantle Council Office ballot box during office hours or Fremantle Town Hall ballot box on Saturday.
